Analysis of ratings (season 6/7 on sky one)

This analysis was brought about due to a belief that X-File ratings in the UK were decreasing. After completing it, the results were surprising to say the least! Once you have read this, you can go back to the ratings section

As can be seen from the figures, the season 6 finale "Biogenesis" drew in just under 900,000 viewers, but did not get into the top 3 programmes broadcast on Sky One This was due to competition on other channels, especially because BBC1 was broadcasting the favourite "Only Fools And Horses" at 8:30pm. So no cause for concern there.

Many industry pundits have seized upon the X-Files this season, especially due to a lack of media attention - both predicting its decline among the viewing public, and criticizing the storylines. The figures shown on this website prove them easily wrong. Not only did the Season 7 premiere and finale draw in exactly the same amount of viewers (+1 million), both were higher than the preceding season! This feat was not achieved even in the US where the series is based. Throughout the season, in 16 out of 22 episodes, the X-Files was in the top 5 programmes on Sky One. Two episodes were even the top-rated - "all things" and "Requiem" . Up against competition such as Friends and The Simpson's, this is excellent performance considering this is supposed to be a declining series. The massive budget of $9 million dollars for the opening two-parter can only push the ratings even further upward. So the future of the X-Files is bright in the UK, especially on Sky One. I don't have the space to rant about the BBC however
