X-It Fox

After years of chasing aliens, Mulder has finally gone to earth.

There have been plenty of hatches, matches and dispatches during The X Files' eight years of existence - but none more important than those in this week's season finale.

Agent Scully, on the brink of giving birth to a possibly alien baby, knows her child's life is in danger from onlookers not-of-this-world. What's more, in the fight to give the infant a safe delivery, an X File regular breathes their last...

The end is also nigh for Fox Mulder with actor David Duchovny quitting the hit sci-fi drama. 'I'm done with the TV show,' he says. 'It's hard to walk away, but I don't think it would be fair to me or the fans to do cameos.'

So as Duchovny bids farewell to his career-making character, a flick through the Fox files reveals some of Spooky's most famous moments...

YOU MUST REMEMBER THIS...

A kiss is not a kiss on The X Files. Mulder couldn't resist a lip-lock with a double of Scully (Gillian Anderson) on a ship caught in the Bermuda Triangle, while she nearly necked a man who'd assumed her partner's appearance. But when it comes to the real thing, it's a different story. Mulder has held Scully's hand, danced with her at a cher concert (Duchovny's favourite Mulder and Scully moment), pretended to be her husband and even donated Sperm, but the duo's only genuine smacker - at the dawning of the new millennium - was hardly a scorcher. So will they sign off with a snog? Our lips are sealed.

SIMPLY RED

'Sometimes I think I'll put my red speedo up for auction,' laughs the star, whose sexiest Mulder moment was emerging from a pool in the tight-fitting trunks. 'Or maybe I'll donate it to the Smithsonian [USA Museums]. They can stuff it with two plums and a gherkin and put it on display.' The swimwear has already spawned Mulder's Red Speedo Appreciation Society, poems on the net and a simpsons tribute: when Mulder visited Springfield, his FBI ID photo showed him in bathers.

MAN IN THE MIRROR

Trapped in the body of Area 51 Man-in-Black Morris Fletcher (Michael McKean), Mulder examines his new mug in the mirror... so begins possibly his funniest scene. Dancing around his vest and boxers, the Fed fails to hear his wife coming through the bedroom door. In a lame attempt to save face, he pretends to be practicing t'ai chi.

KNOCKING ON HEAVEN'S DOOR

Mulder has cheated death so many times it's hard to choose his greatest escape. Perhaps it was his exit from an exploding box-car and the ensuing discovery of his expiring body by Navajo Albert Horsteen and his family, including his son Eric (Dakota House), whose healing ritual brought him back from the brink.

The season finale 'Existence' airs this Thursday (June 28) at 9pm on Sky One.
